Sony Unveils 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 and 600mm f/4 Super-Tele Lenses

Sony today announced two major telephoto lenses for its full-frame FE lens lineup: the 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS super-telephoto zoom and the 600mm f/4 G super-telephoto prime.

These are the first two Sony FE lenses that reach 600mm. Paired with Sony’s 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverters, the lenses offer a reach of 840mm and 1200mm, respectively.

With the introduction of these two new lenses, the Sony E-mount lens stable now features 33 FE lenses and 51 total lenses.

The new Sony FE 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 G OSS is designed for bird, wildlife, and sports photographers.

“When paired with any of the latest, fastest E-mount camera bodies, it will reliably track and accurately capture all types of moving subjects, including birds, wildlife, athletes in motion and much more,” Sony says.

Here are some official sample photos captured with the lens:

Features of the lens include built-in optical stabilization (with three modes), a new optical design that minimizes chromatic aberration, an 11-blade circular aperture for beautiful bokeh, Nano AR coating for reducing reflections/glare/ghosting, Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) for fast/precise/quiet autofocus, an internal zoom mechanism (i.e. the lens’ length doesn’t change), dust and moisture resistance, light zoom ring torque, Linear Response MF in the focus ring for fine manual focus control, 3 customizable focus-hold buttons, a Focus Range Limiter, and a fluorine coating that resists dirt/fingerprints.
